Yepp Jr. Bicycle Seat Review

As many of you know, we test all of the products personally before we decide to carry them in our store. It is a fun job, but someone has to do it! One of the products we tested recently was the Yepp Junior, which is designed for children from 5 – 10 years old, with a weight capacity of 20 -35 kg.  Which is very similar to the Bobike Junior and Qibbel Junior seats we sell.

For this test ride, we found ourselves in one of our favorite places Holland and we were fortunate enough to find a place to rent us a Yepp Jr. as we hadn’t tried it yet.

It was easily installed onto our Gazelle rental bike, using the easy fit rear carrier, and off we went for a crazy 42km trek into the Dutch country side.  Russell our near five year-old hopped on and off we happily went.

When we hit the 3 km mark, there seemed to be a bit of fidgeting behind me. I kept on asking if everything was alright, the reply was always “I’m good.”

Somewhere along the way, we got slightly lost, and had to ask directions, when the little man behind me attempted to lean forward and stated “I am not comfy.”

The problem was unlike the Qibbel or Bobike jr. the Yepp Jr. has  a round cut-out on the back. Although it looks cool, it was not very comfortable to lean back on. The straps were also at chest height, not over the lap, which made it even more uncomfortable as we had to loosen them so he could lean forward into me the rest of the ride home.

So the Yepp Jr. is a good seat if you are only using it for very short rides and may be advantageous if you already have the Yepp rear carrier which can be found on some of our Gazelle and Azor bicycles. If you are looking for a seat for a 5-10 year old, we would highly recommend the Bobike Junior instead as it comes with a frame attachment that fits virtually every bike, it is the most comfortable and it folds down when not in use.
